If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that I’ve been reading a lot about Maria Montessori and her method of teaching young children lately. What you might not know is that I attended a Montessori preschool and my mother has only had great things to say about the Montessori education I received. My mom attributes much of my academic success to what I learned in preschool. Even though I don’t remember much of my preschool, I’ve come to believe that my love of learning was instilled at an early age because of this experience.
Thinking back, I do remember how much I loved school starting in kindergarten, but I also remember how I already knew much of what I was learning through third grade. I started reading at 3 and didn’t learn anything new in math class until 3rd grade. I was a always a book worm and library time was always my favorite time of the school day.
As an adult, I continue to learn. I have both an undergraduate degree, in psychology, and a graduate degree, in law, but I’m often learning something new through books, online research, college extension courses or online classes.
Since my newest fascination is how to teach the Montessori Method to my children, I was excited to learn about an online 12-month certification program through KHT Montessori. Karen Tyler, founder and owner of KHT Montessori, created this awesome program for anyone interested in learning how to teach Montessori to children, whether you’re teaching your own kids, in a home environment or at a preschool. There are learners all over the world in my class.
The program includes 12 Montessori manuals and instruction from Karen through an online forum that encourages student participation. This is an affordable way to learn about Montessori in a nurturing and convenient environment.
I had read about this program at many of the blogs I follow. It didn’t take me long to realize that this course would be the best way for me to learn about Montessori and begin implementing these methods at home. I hope my children grow up loving to learn as much as I do.
I started the course just this month and we’ve started with the Practical Life Manual. I’ve already started some of the exercises with my children.
I’ll report on our progress with the exercises here so you can all see how well we do with KHT Montessori!
